12 Days of Christmas

Today is the 12th day after Christmas - traditionally trees and decorations are taken down, but ours have been down since the weekend already :)

I haven't blogged for a while, so thought I'd write our Christmas news in one long post :)

We had a quiet Christmas eve - boerie rolls for dinner, then watched a fun DVD - and opened some gifts.

We had a wonderful Christmas day. Started off with a service at Hebron Church, Long Ashton. After that we were fetched for our day at friends. They treated us to a wonderful lunch, we listened to the Queen's speech - a wonderful gospel message :), played a board game "Best of British"

and really had a great time together.

We had so much food, that there was enough for bubble and squeak breakfast, the cheese and biscuits for lunch and cold meat and salad for dinner on Boxing Day.

We spent the week between Christmas and New Year quietly at home - didn't use the car once! It was bliss! We slept late, read, watched DVD's, went for walks in the woodland and generally rested!

I managed to do some knitting. Finished my first pair of socks. These were knitted on 4 double pointed needles - eish - it took 3 weeks to finish the one sock! Pulled it all out about 5 times, till I got the hang of it :)

Now I am knitting socks for Gary and Sarah. They don't expect them till next winter, fortunately!

I didn't bring my bread maker with to the UK and have been missing freshly baked bread. So I hauled out Jamie Oliver's recipe and it has been great - getting the hang of working yeast - yeah!
Nothing nicer than fresh bread!

We started back at school this week - I had aimed for starting on Monday the 2nd, but the girls got wind of the fact that it was a bank holiday, so there was mutiny in the ranks - we started on Tuesday :) Friends and I arranged a surprise visit to Krispy Kreme donut shop - was fun watching the girls see each other and not realize it was all planned! "Oh, look! Naomi and Rosie are here!" "And there are Bethany and Kayleigh! What a coincidence!" - not! Unfortunately, they didn't have any being baked so we couldn't watch that - will have to go back :( - lol

This morning we went for our nature walk at the top of Belmont Hill - we usually walk around the bottom - amazing how it looks different! Thanks to my friend's suggestion, I printed out the Winter Scavenger Hunt. We found everything on our list apart from pine cones, although there were pine trees.
Skeleton leaves

Birch seed catkins

A shelter we found in the woodland - complete with braai area, swing, bench.

Well, that's us caught up - hope you are all well - look forward to hearing your news too :)
